Wiki Structure

Overview

This wiki is designed with a foundation, which means it has a set of guidelines and tools that help strengthen the quality and operations of it. Any page that serves as part of that foundation must be protected and set to admin only for editing and moving. This includes:

Any registered user that would like to contribute to these should talk with an admin about what they want to do. Users that would like to help with foundational pages on a regular basis should be considered for being made an Admin.

Moderating Guidelines

Majority of all content on the wiki falls into 3 main categories:

  • Foundational
    • Definition: Information that directly relates to the operation, quality and structure of the wiki. Generally created to help the standards of the wiki.
    • Guidelines
      • All information needs to be organized, accurate, concise and useful
      • Must be consistent with layout of similar pages
      • Should be written like an informational or instructional guide
    • Current list of: Contributor's Guide, all Templates, all Template Documentation, all Properties, all Modules, all MediaWiki, all Help, all content in this category, and naming conventions for files.
  • Static
    • Definition: Information that directly represents the content from the game. This includes details on Characters, events, stores, gameplay, etc. Generally created to inform others about things within the game.
    • Guidelines
      • All information needs to be organized, accurate, concise and useful
      • Must be consistent with layout of similar pages
      • Should be written like an Official Game Guide
      • Only current game information
      • All content must be relevant to the main purpose of the page
      • No personal opinions or remarks
    • Current list of: all Units, all Events, all Category:Holotable, About the game, all Shipments, Basic Information, Mechanics, Main Page, and New content
  • User
    • Definition: Information that originates from the opinions, interpretations, and strategies of players within the gaming community about specific elements of the game. Generally created to help other players elevate their gaming experience and progression.
    • Guidelines
      • All information needs to be organized, accurate, concise and useful
      • Information should be structured and formatted to make it easier to read
      • Should utilize current tools to reduce unnecessary files being uploaded
      • Should follow all other guidelines in Contributor's Guide#Editing Guidelines
    • Current list of: all Guides, most of Community, Reviews, Rankings, and any other useful content.

Content Flow

This wiki uses transclusion and Semantic MediaWiki to auto update other pages. Below will show how this wiki uses information on one page for other pages.

Overview

  • Every Event, Store, Challenge, and Battle page updates every resource (Gear, Ability Mats, etc) and unit locations on their respective pages.
  • Unit Locations auto updates Farming Location pages.
  • Unit Pages use Templates that updates every Gear, Status Effect, and Battle Mechanic use sections; Alignment, Role, Faction, New Units, Characters, and Ships list of applicable units.
  • Every Gear page includes the transclusion of it's recipes which is used for updating Gear pages and the Unit Ability Templates.

Details

  • Template:Event Schedule - This template shows upcoming events. A script provided by swgohevents.com auto updates this page. This page is then transcluded on:
  • Template:unitName - This template is used to create the top of character pages including the Character Infoboxes. A Google Spreadsheet is used to manually track release dates, ability information such as status effects, mechanics, and synergy, and much more. This sheet is then exported to JSON and ran with a script that auto creates or updates these templates with that information. These templates are then transcluded on the characters page. These templates use Semantic MediaWIki that auto updates information on the following pages:
  • Template:unitName Abilities - This template is used to add a characters abilities to their page. A script is used to auto create or update these templates with information. These templates are then transcluded on the characters page. These templates use Semantic MediaWiki that auto updates information on the following pages:
    • All graphical versions of Faction Pages: Category:Faction by adding the Leader and Commander ability to those pages.
    • Leader by adding the Leader ability to those pages.
    • Fleet Commander by adding the Commander ability to those pages.
  • Template:unitName Stats - This template is used to add a characters stats to their page. A script is used to auto create or update these templates with information. These templates are then transcluded on the characters page. These templates use Semantic MediaWiki that auto updates information on the following pages:
    • All Gear pages with the unit that uses it by utilizing the gear required for each Gear Level.
